The waterways around Rotterdam rank among the most dynamic waterways in the world. Virtually everything that has to do with shipping is continuously in motion. The increase in container shipping is particularly impressive.

With 220 independent professional Pilots making more than 62.000 piloted movements a year ‘Loodsen Corporatie Rotterdam-Rijnmond’ or “Rotterdam Pilots” is the most prominent pilot corporation in the Netherlands and one of the biggest in Europe.

On account of the diversity of the vessels and the destinations, Pilots are specialised in various fields of expertise. Some pilots are especially trained for the navigation via the Eurochannel. Others are specialised in particular harbours and water areas, Shore-Based Pilotage (SBP) or various traffic duties.
